Danish Funding System - an overview

Danish Council for Independent Research (Det Frie Forskningsråd) has changed their evaluation policy and uses now more external referees. Therefore the main application deadline has moved from September to March 1st .

Det Fire Forskningsråd takes care of researcher initiated "curiosity driven" research.
Most interesting for nanotechnology are the following Councils:
Council for Technology and Production Sciences (Rådet for Teknologi og Produktion)
Natural Science Research Council (Rådet for Natur og Univers)
Medical Research Council (Rådet for Sundhed og Sygdom).

Villum Kann Rasmussen Grants

If you plan to apply for a post doc, VKR has posted a call on the 13. Nov 2009. You will have to apply online and you will get an answer January or February. If you need help with your applications you are welcome to contact Square One.
Notice: VKR primarily supports Danish citizens who want to go abroad for a post doc or post docs abroad who want to come to Denmark. You cannot apply, if you are working as a post doc at the SDU and want to stay.

HTF, the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation has announced a new call for Hightechnology Projects and Hightechnology Platforms

Write your letter of interest for projects between 2,5-15 Million DKK.
Write you letter of interest for platforms between 15-75 Million DKK.

Projects:
An advanced technology project is a partnership between one or more private companies and
one or more public sector research institutions. At the end of the funding period there should be a new product.

Platforms:
An advanced technology platform is a partnership between one or more private companies and
one or more public sector research institutions. The aim is to develop new groundbreaking technology to open up new commercial aktivities within different fields for all partners.

International network programme from the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation: Support is given for cooperation with one or several of the following countries: China, India, Israel, Japan, USA and Brasil. Support includes workshops, conferences and visiting scientists grants.

Preprojects til EUs 7th framework programme

Support is given to small and medium sized companies for expenses in connection with the preparation of an EU FP7 project.

PHD support fra Marie Curie Initial Training Networks (ITN) FP7 programme:

Support for 4 years contracts for PhD education is given via ITN in all subjects. Private and public organisations can apply for support, but there is the need for minimum 3 EU countries to participate in each application.

The Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation Calls:

Elite Forsk: Travel grants for the most talented PhD students. Grants are 300000 DKK and kan be used to study at some of the best foreign scientific institutions. Deadline: September 1, 2009.

Elite Forsk Price: Also in 2009 there are five prizes for scientists of different working fields. The scientist have to be under 45 years and should be internationally accredited. Deadline: September 1, 2009.


Call of European Science Foundation (ESF) Explorative Workshops - 2009

The program aims to support workshops within 2010 on a European level to find out about possible new research partners. The following topics will be supported:

  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Life Earth and Environmental Sciences
  • Physical and Engineering Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Science driven issues of Research Infrastructures in any of the above fields

Call of D-Artemis - The Danish Embedded Systems Consortium:
The D-ARTEMIS project (Danish Artemis), aims at assembling all Danish actors from the domain of embedded systems/pervasive computing to a concerted effort. The purpose is to achieve an increased Danish participation in the large and relevant projects which are supported with dedicated funding for the Artemis initiative, approx. 2,5 billion Euro.

'Koordinatorpuljen': Danish companies and scientific institutions that coordinate an EU project under the 7th framework programme (FP7) can ask for support of their expenses in connection with this coordinating work, e.g., contract negotiations. The support can be up to 65000 DKK.

'EU-forprojektordningen': New projects of small and medium sized companies with the aim to participate in an EU programm (FP7). They can gain support for the expenses they have in connection with the preparation of the proposal. These could be expenses for further development of the project idea, costs that arise in finding the right partners or extra costs that arise when writing the proposal.

Deadlines for applications in 2009 are: January 14, February 25, April 16 and June 3.

Netværkspuljen: Persons that preparate the participation of Danish networks in big EU applications can get support. The support is given via 'Det stratigiske Forskningsråd'.


New call within the Nano programme of FP7: EU calls in for projects within Nanoscience and -technology, materials and new production methods. There are different deadlines:

Collaborative projects (CP) step 1: February 17, 2009 at 17.00 o'clock
Coordination and Support Actions (CSA): March 31, 2009 at 17.00 o'clock
Coordinated calls with Russia: March 31, 2009 at 17.00 o'clock

The European Science Foundation invites individual scientists to submit proposals for high-level research conferences to take place in 2009 and 2010 within the framework of its Research Conferences Scheme . The ESF will fund Research Conferences in the following scientific domains:

February 8, 2007: NordForsk to support Nordic research with 100 million NOK  

If you have cooperation partners in one or many of the following countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) or autonomous areas (the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the Aland Islands) this might be an opportunity for you. Many NordForsk activities are open to all countries in the Nordic region, which in addition to the Nordic countries includes the adjacent areas Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and North-Western Russia.

NordForsk will hand out more than 100 million NOK (more than 12 million Euro) in Nordic research grants over the next three years. All academic fields are eligible for funding of activities such as networks, researcher training courses, course scholarships, PhD supervisor courses and seed money. Read more .
